Culture

The National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan has 20 exhibition halls, including 16 permanent and 4 temporary halls. Its “Ancient and Medieval History Hall” presents the civilizational development of Kazakhstan, from stone tools to the medieval period, across four historical eras. The museum also displays a traditional, portable felt yurt of the nomadic Kazakhs.

The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation offers guided tours in Kazakh, Russian, and English. The building houses the Academy of the Turkic World, the International Center of Cultures and Religions, the Kulanshi Gallery of Contemporary Art, Astana’s ethnic cultural centers, an exhibition on ancient pyramids, and a museum of national costumes.

The Mangilik El Triumphal Arch was built in 2011 to mark the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence and is decorated with white marble and national ornaments. The Wall of Peace Monument has green spaces, walking paths, and places to rest; cultural and educational activities on peace and tolerance take place there.

Jastar Palace is a cultural center with creative workshops, concerts, and educational projects. The Kazakh Eli Monument has landscaped grounds with green spaces and fountains, which are used for walking, relaxation, and photography.

Nature

The Botanical Garden of Astana has a modern, climate-controlled greenhouse complex with automated drip irrigation and misting systems. The garden offers flowers, ornamental trees, rare plants, walking paths, rest areas, and children’s playgrounds.

The Botanical Garden of Astana hosts guided tours, botany and floristry master classes, and ecological activities for children and adults. There are also benches, pavilions, and cafés where visitors can rest after walking.

Walks

Self-guided walks in Astana include routes along Nurzhol Boulevard, through the Old Town, and between the waterfront promenade and Central Park. Maps and an audio guide are available for this purpose.
