Nature

Tsqnet’i has a lower- and middle-mountain climate. Local air circulation, cooling winds and green vegetation contribute to the cooler conditions. Winters are moderately cold and have little snow, while summers are moderately dry and warm. Even during summer heatwaves, Tsqnet’i remains cool.

Coniferous tree species were artificially planted in Tsqnet’i in 1935 and 1936.

History

Tsqnet’i has long been known as a country-house and holiday area. Intensive development began at the end of the 19th century. The resort’s infrastructure was developed during the Soviet era. In the 1960s and 1970s, Tsqnet’i became an important suburban recreational destination for Tbilisi.

Culture

Tsqnet’i is home to three small churches dating from the 17th to the 19th century: David the Builder (Agmashenebeli) Monastery, St. George’s Church and St. Nino’s Church. The Maia Tskneteli Monument in Tsqnet’i is dedicated to a legendary figure from Georgian folklore. Maia Tskneteli is associated in accounts of the defence of her homeland in the 18th century with bravery and strategic thinking.

The monument is located in the peaceful upper part of Tsqnet’i, in a historic area of the settlement surrounded by coniferous forest. It is described as easily accessible and suitable for walks along local paths. Nearby, in the direction of Kojori–Tabakhmela, there are hiking trails associated with battles from the past century.

Shops and cafés, recreational areas and well-equipped family hotels are open year-round.
