Adishi: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Adishi is a high-altitude mountain village in the Caucasus, described as one of the oldest in the Svaneti region. Old houses stand in front of Svan towers, with the Adishi Glacier behind them. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Adishi can then continue their accommodation search.

Culture

Adishi preserves medieval monuments, including churches with wall paintings, houses, towers, and examples of metalwork. The Adishi Gospels, an illuminated manuscript from the year 897, are exhibited in the Christian treasury of the Historical/Ethnographic Museum of Svaneti.

The Church of the Savior in Adishi dates from the 10th and 11th centuries and preserves paintings from the 12th century. The two Churches of St. George, dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, contain artwork depicting episodes from the lives of the saints. The Archangels Church in Adishi dates back to the 13th century and is decorated with ancient frescoes.

Nature

The Adishi Glacier is described as a landscape feature of unique value; alpine meadows lie near its terminus. On the Adishi–Iprari trail, there is neither a bridge nor an obvious place to ford the river before the Chkhutnieri Pass. After crossing the river, the trail offers a view of the Adishi Valley Glacier.

The Chkhutnieri Pass is at risk of avalanches and can only be crossed from the end of June onward. The Adishi–Iprari trail also offers views of the peaks of Tetnuldi, Shkhara, Zhangha, and Rustaveli. The Zhabeshi–Adishi hiking route is considered moderately difficult, is 12 kilometers long, and takes approximately five to six hours.

Geographical Setting

The road from Mestia to Adishi is particularly rough and winding; the final section requires a vehicle with high off-road capability.

Visitors can stay in family-run hotels or camp near the village by the water. Routes connecting Adishi and Mulakhi lead to family-run hotels where homemade Kubdari, Chvishtari, and Tashmijabi are served. In Adishi, visitors can try fresh dairy products associated with local livestock farming.
