Arsha provides access to two cascading waterfalls near Toti. The path from Arsha to the first waterfall is approximately 1.5 km long; the second, known as „Woman’s Hair“, is another 10–15 minutes from the first. The path to the first waterfall is comparatively easy, while access to the second is more difficult due to steep slopes.

Culture and History

The medieval Arsha Fortress stands above the valley and was positioned so that it could monitor and control passage through the gorge. The site was built in the 16th and 17th centuries and served as a refuge for the inhabitants of Khevi during enemy invasions.

Arsha is framed by limestone and shale formations of the Greater Caucasus; steep slopes descend to the river plain. Arsha has cool summers and long, snowy winters.

Geographical Setting

Arsha lies at an elevation of 1,760 meters above sea level in historic Khevi, along the corridor in the upper Terek River valley in Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Arsha is located directly on the main traffic route leading to Georgia’s northern border.

The Georgian Military Highway is a 212-kilometer scenic route crossing the Greater Caucasus between Tbilisi and Vladikavkaz.
