History

Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Rustavi can then continue their accommodation search. Rustavi has archaeological and architectural heritage, including medieval urban remains, a fortress and citadel, as well as cultural layers from the Bronze Age, Early Iron Age and Hellenistic period. The ruins of Rustavi Fortress can still be seen today.

The Mtkvari divides Rustavi into areas on the left and right banks. Rustavi’s riparian woodland forms part of Rustavi Culture and Recreation Park; the park contains an artificial lake. The park also has basketball, football and volleyball courts, an open-air amphitheatre and cycling paths.

Rustavi features exhibitions and sales of contemporary Georgian works by local artisans: felt items, woven works, ceramics, tapestries, carpets, runners and cloisonné enamel works are displayed and offered for sale.

The collections of the Rustavi History Museum include ceramics, glassware, tools, jewellery, stamps, numismatic and ethnographic material, as well as modern art. The museum also displays paintings created with cobwebs instead of paint and pencils. Rustavkalakoba takes place in Rustavi in mid-September as a folk festival celebrating the city’s history.
