Vardisubani: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vardisubani is known in Kakheti as a centre of qvevri production and pottery, and is therefore associated with Georgia’s traditional cultural heritage of wine vessels and ceramic craftsmanship. The village is located within the Tsinandali microzone. The Bardanashvili cellar experience includes homemade white, rosé and red wines.

Vardisubani lies on the northeastern slopes of the Gombori Range and on the right bank of the Turdo River.

History and Culture

Vardisubani is first mentioned in Georgian historical sources in the 14th century. The Vardisubani Residential Fortified Complex is a preserved late medieval residential fortification with a defensive perimeter wall, a multi-storey stone tower and integrated residential areas; it was built in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The White George Basilica is an architectural monument dating from the sixth or seventh century. The White George (Dekanozuri) Church is classified as an immovable cultural monument and is a three-church basilica with eastern side rooms and a western ambulatory. It was built from large river stones laid in regular courses; its corners are made of Shirimi stone. Only the southern and western sections of the stone enclosure have survived. The central vault and the southern part of the apse have collapsed. The church was repaired in the 16th century.
