The Khulo Local Lore Museum presents the ethnography and everyday life of the region. On display are tools from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as local crafts and embroidery. The exhibition is divided into the areas of ethnography, sculpture, archaeology and numismatics. The museum was founded in 1983 and offers lessons and discussions related to the cultural heritage. Admission is free.
History and Surroundings
The historic settlement of the Khulo municipality was associated with a role as a trading post and was formerly called Khula, meaning “trading house”. In the regional context of the Khulo municipality, Green Lake is located at 2,058 metres above sea level. The Goderdzi Fossil Forest is a 365-hectare petrified forest with the status of a natural monument.
Connections
The Khulo–Tago cable car is a simple means of transport connecting Tago and Khulo for the local population. The journey to Tago takes eight minutes, and the cable car is 1,700 metres long. The ride is an adventure with mountain views. Tago can also be reached by road.
Routes
The Khulo Tourist Route I starts in the small town of Khulo with a visit to the Ethnographical Museum and ends in Kedlebi. It includes a section leading to Uchkho Bridge. The hiking route from Khulo to Uchkho passes by Uchkho Bridge; the section at the bridge is suitable exclusively for walking. The bridge is located near Khulo, has a single span and dates back to the 12th century. The elevation of Khulo Tourist Route I ranges from 883 to 1,592 metres above sea level. The route is recommended year-round.
The Khulo–Kedlebi route reaches a waterfall approximately one kilometre beyond the Kedlebi Skiing Base. A section from the junction to the Kedlebi Skiing Base runs for 3.8 kilometres along a concrete road. The Khulo–Tago–Mount Argineti route starts in the centre of Khulo and is recommended only from late spring to early autumn.
Local Life
Khikhadziri, Danisparauli, Elelidzeebi and Tago are described as places where visitors can stay overnight, eat natural foods and take part in cooking classes.
