History and Culture
Turbenthal’s Christian and ecclesiastical tradition has been documented since a basilica was mentioned in 858; the present Reformed church was built in 1512.
Its industrial history includes large spinning mills and weaving mills. These were followed by the development of cotton spinning factories.
The traditional market takes place in spring and autumn; its tradition dates back to 1830.
The Turbenthal Local History Museum is housed in the former agricultural section of the Stiefelhaus and displays objects relating to customs, crafts and domestic industry from the Töss Valley.
The local history museum also presents regional artists as well as material from the personal estate of the writer Olga Meyer, whose novels describe life in the Töss Valley in earlier times.
