Geographical location
Giubiasco is a locality in the municipality of Bellinzona in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Until 1 April 2017, Giubiasco was an independent political municipality and the administrative centre of the former Giubiasco district.
Giubiasco is located in the Magadino Plain between Sant’Antonino and Bellinzona.
The Gotthard railway line between Bellinzona and Lugano runs through Giubiasco. The station also provides a connection to the railway line to Locarno; a branch line from there continues to Luino.
In 1186, Frederick Barbarossa granted Giubiasco the privilege of freedom for the Locarno region.
