Geographical Location and History

Carasso lies mainly on the right bank of the Ticino River, about three kilometres north of Bellinzona city centre; Prato-Carasso lies on the left bank.

Carasso has documented medieval roots: in 1291, it was a vicinia with a podestà, and during the 13th and 14th centuries it belonged to the Rusconi family.

Carasso joined neighbouring Bellinzona in 1907, but continues to exist as an independent citizens' municipality.
