Savagnier was formerly a political municipality and was incorporated into the municipality of Val-de-Ruz on 1 January 2013.

Savagnier lies at an altitude of 750 metres above sea level, approximately seven kilometres north-northeast of Neuchâtel, in a hollow on the eastern side of the Val de Ruz basin at the northern foot of Chaumont.

The territory of Savagnier includes an intensively cultivated depression around the Seyon, the wooded steep slope known as the Forêt de Savagnier, and higher terrain on the Jura ridge of Chaumont.

The former municipal territory extended as far as Grand Chaumont; its highest point there was at 1,270 metres above sea level.

Savagnier is a locality and former Swiss municipality in the canton of Neuchâtel, within the Val-de-Ruz region.

The former municipal territory comprised intensively cultivated lowland, the wooded slope of the Forêt de Savagnier, and higher Jura terrain extending towards Grand Chaumont.

History

The settlement history of Savagnier dates back to Roman times; the first medieval reference dates from around 1140.

Getting There

Val-de-Ruz can be reached from Neuchâtel by bus to Cernier or by train to Les Hauts-Geneveys followed by a bus; buses serve the valley.
