Bevaix lies at 475 m above sea level on a plain in front of the southern Jura foothills, approximately 50 m above the shore of Lake Neuchâtel and around 11 km southwest of Neuchâtel at the southern foot of the Jura.
The former municipal area included part of the northwestern shore of Lake Neuchâtel around Pointe du Grain; the narrow shoreline there was partly marshy and covered with reeds. The former municipal area reached its highest point at 1,335 m. In 1997, forests and wooded areas accounted for 48% and agricultural land for 38% of the former municipal area.
The former municipal area extended westwards across the densely wooded slope of the Forêt de Bevaix, which rises in the Jura foothills towards Montagne de Boudry in the foremost Jura range.
The Bevaix area includes a narrow, partly marshy section of the northwestern shore of Lake Neuchâtel lined with reeds; from there, the terrain rises to the plain of Bevaix and the wooded Forêt de Bevaix.
A moderately difficult, 12.1-kilometre forest hiking route runs through the Forêt de Bevaix and descends from Montagne de Boudry towards the plain. Bevaix railway station is located a few minutes from the endpoint of this forest hiking route.
