La Tuor Planta and the church shape the villagescape of Susch. Anyone wishing to stay in Susch can rent a holiday apartment for this purpose.

Culture

La Tuor Planta is a striking five-storey building with a floor plan measuring 8 × 8 metres. Its Baroque onion dome probably dates from the 17th century.

The Reformed Church of San Jon in Susch is a late Gothic new building dating from around 1515, with an unarticulated Romanesque tower. Fragments of a mural dating from around 1515 have been preserved on the south wall of the chancel; they may depict a cycle of apostles.

Muzeum Susch is located on the grounds of a medieval monastery in the Inn Valley and opened its doors in December 2018. The ensemble was part of a rural monastery built in 1157 at the Flüela Pass, on the pilgrimage route to Rome and Santiago de Compostela. Muzeum invites visitors to take informative tours and offers exhibitions, experimental forms of presentation, performances, conferences, lectures, events and an interdisciplinary studio programme.

Susch experienced a heyday as a place of lodging when merchants travelled across the Flüela Pass in the era of mule trains and stagecoaches. The fortress ruins of Fortezza Rohan visible today were built in 1635 by Duke Henri II de Rohan during the Thirty Years’ War and the Bündner Wirren. Sections of the original walls, standing 2.5 to 5 metres high, have been preserved at the star-shaped fortress ruins. The La Praschun tower dates from the 12th or 13th century.

Participants in the “Engadine Sgraffito with Your Own Hands” course can take home the sgraffito they made themselves as a souvenir.

Geographical location

Susch is a pass village at the foot of the Flüela Pass and lies in the triangle between Scuol, Zernez and Davos. In Susch, the Inn flows right through the village—the only place in Lower Engadine where it does so.
