Sagens: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Nature and Trails
Sagogn lies above the Rhine on the edge of the Ruinaulta Gorge. In the forests of Sagogn, a dense network of hiking trails and various bike tours lead to forest lakes, viewpoints and other attractions.
Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Sagens is choosing accommodation at the destination itself.
The Senda da Sagogn is a 3.5-kilometre hiking trail through sites of historical and cultural significance near the village. It begins at the Vitg dado PostBus stop by Sagogn's schoolhouse. The Senda d’orchideas da Sagogn consists of two circular hiking trails with a total length of 7 kilometres and ends at the Crap Signina viewing platform. Along the Senda Sagogn, nine information boards provide interesting facts about the village.
Culture and History
The Platta Pussenta features artificially created hollows that were probably made by a pre-Roman pagan people. Two historic routes cross beside the Platta Pussenta: the old main road through the Surselva from Laax to Schluein, which was used until the 9th century, and the connecting route from Sagogn via Plaun Larisch, Runcal and Gonda to Falera.
The Mulin mill site documents the importance of the former agricultural and forestry economy, as well as the pre-industrial processes of grain milling and wood sawing. Casti Aspermont already had a powerful tower in the 13th century. The elegant hall house of Casti Aspermont was added to the tower by the Castelli family in 1672.
The ceiling and wall paintings by Giovanni Battista Macolino from Val San Giacomo in Sagogn's Catholic church constitute the most comprehensive original collection of High Baroque paintings in the canton of Graubünden. Sagogn's Reformed church was built in 1743 and has an onion-shaped church tower spire.
The oldest predecessor church on the present site of Sagogn's Church of St Mary dates back to the 4th or 5th century. The floor plan of Sagogn's Catholic church has remained unchanged for more than 1,500 years. At Bregl da Heida stands a Carolingian hall church with a horseshoe-shaped apse; it is identified as the Church of St Columban mentioned in Bishop Tello's testament of 765.
Winter
When snow conditions are good, Sagogn offers around 15.5 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails for classic and skating styles. On sunny Plaun da Sagogn, winter hiking trails run alongside the ski trails across the plateau to Schluein.
