Visitors can explore the old town on foot or as part of a guided old-town tour. It is almost entirely free of traffic; red signs point the way to sights, squares and alleyways. Above Chur's old town stands the 800-year-old Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is one of Switzerland's most important cultural monuments. The Obertor is also one of the surviving tower structures of Chur's medieval fortifications.
The Rhaetian Museum presents the history of Graubünden from its beginnings to the present day in a permanent exhibition spread over four floors. The archaeological exhibition includes settlement traces from Chur-Marsöl dating from around 11,000 to 9,500 BC.

Brambrüesch is a high plateau with hiking trails and panoramic views over the Rhine Valley. Brambrüesch can be reached directly from Chur by cable car. Hiking options on Brambrüesch include the Dreibündenstein circular tour. The signposted Brambiweg is a walking path for families.
