Culture and History
The local museum is housed in a former farmhouse built between 1560 and 1600. In the local museum in the village centre, visitors can see a true-to-scale 1:87 (H0m) replica of the Preda–Bergün section of the Rhaetian Railway. Along Dorfstrasse in Bergün, houses with oriel windows facing the street and sgraffito façades stand side by side.
The La tuor tower is a defining feature of Bergün’s villagescape. La tuor was built as a refuge and defensive tower and was used as a prison during the construction of the railway. During the late Gothic remodelling of the Protestant Reformed Church in Bergün around 1500, an Italian itinerant mural painter created a cycle of frescoes, including motifs depicting the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Albula Railway Museum is located directly next to Bergün railway station and offers a Clà Ferrovia children’s tour. At the Albula Railway Museum, visitors can learn about the history of the Rhaetian Railway.
Nature and Trails
In the area around Bergün, in Val Tuors, large colonies of ibex and chamois live. The Nutcracker Trail starts at the La Diala mountain station and can be reached from Bergün via the Darlux chairlift. At seven interactive stations, it provides information about the calls of the spotted nutcracker and its role as the “gardener of the forest”.
The Albula Railway Adventure Trail runs from Preda via Bergün to Filisur and provides interesting information about the history of the Rhaetian Railway UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Albula/Bernina landscape. The Preda–Bergün section of the Albula Railway Adventure Trail is a 7-kilometre moderate mountain hike with an estimated walking time of 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes.
Winter and Water
The Preda–Bergün toboggan run offers a 6-kilometre descent from Preda down into the valley to Bergün. The Darlux–Bergün toboggan run is 4.5 kilometres long and has tighter bends and steeper sections than the Preda–Bergün toboggan run.
The Bergbadi Bergün outdoor pool has a 50-metre pool with a slide and a children’s pool with a fountain. In cool weather, the Bergbadi Bergün offers a heated hot tub and a barrel sauna; the barrel sauna can be reserved in advance.
