Town and History
Alvaneu lies on the southeastern slope of Piz Mulain and comprises two parts: Alvaneu Dorf on a sunny terrace above the Albula Valley and Alvaneu Bad on the valley floor beside the Albula.
Alvaneu has a Baroque church dating from 1697/1698, as well as restored houses decorated with paintings and sgraffiti.
Alvaneu Dorf has been known for its blacksmithing tradition since the 17th century. A local blacksmith continues this tradition; the workshop and exhibition rooms can be visited by prior arrangement.
