Geographical Location

La Tour-de-Trême is a locality of Bulle in the canton of Fribourg. It lies southeast of Bulle in the direction of the Intyamon Valley. La Tour-de-Trême is described as the birthplace of Pierre-Nicolas Chenaux.

Nature

The locality lies on the southern side of the alluvial fan of the Trême, at the northern foot of the Moléson massif in the Bulle basin.

The former municipal territory included the Bois de Bouleyres forest, the wooded Sautaux hill, and the wooded or partly pasture-covered northern foothills of the Moléson.

The Trême is the river that separates La Tour-de-Trême from Bulle; it is a tributary of the Sarine.

History

Archaeological discoveries indicate that the site has been settled since prehistoric times, including during the Mesolithic, Bronze Age and Hallstatt periods.

The medieval settlement was fortified; it was founded by the Counts of Gruyère beside a castle that was destroyed in 1349.
