Geographical Location

Wachseldorn is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Bern and belongs to the Thun administrative district.

Nature

Wachseldorn lies northeast of Steffisburg on the eastern foothills of the Buchholterberg. The two largest settlements are Wachseldorn-Dorf at 992 metres and Süderen at 905 metres.

The Rohr and Weidbächli streams flow southwards into the Rotachen.

Wachseldornmoos is a nationally significant marshland in the northwest, but lies almost entirely in neighbouring Buchholterberg.

North of Wachseldorn-Dorf, Wachseldornhubel, at 1,034 metres above sea level, is the highest point in the municipality; larger areas of woodland extend through the centre of the municipality.

According to figures from 2009, 69.8 per cent of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 24.9 per cent consists of forest and woodland, and 5.1 per cent is settlement area.

Bus route 42 connects Wachseldorn to the public transport network on the Thun–Süderen–Heimenschwand route. Süderen is located on the Schallenbergstrasse from Steffisburg towards Entlebuch; Wachseldorn-Dorf is connected by roads towards Bleiken–Oberdiessbach and Fahrni–Steffisburg.
