History

In the late 19th century, Orvin retained a generally agricultural character; in 1930, the municipality had 95 farms.

Geographical Location

Orvin lies at an altitude of 669 metres above sea level, approximately three kilometres as the crow flies northwest of Biel, in the Orvine Valley in the southern Jura.

The municipality extends from the basin of the Orvine Valley towards the wooded Magglingen ridge and the eastern Chasseral range. The steep southern slope of the Chasseral range above the village, crossed by rock bands, is described as a climbing area.
