Augst lies at an altitude of around 275 metres above sea level on a gravel terrace on both sides of the Ergolz. To the north of the village, the Ergolz flows into the Rhine; there, the Violenbach flows into the Ergolz.
History
The nearby Roman site of Augusta Raurica lies between Augst and Kaiseraugst and includes an ancient theatre, amphitheatre, temple, forum and thermal baths.
Main Road 3 between Basel and Rheinfelden runs through Augst. The A2 motorway crosses the municipality; at the Augst interchange, the A3 branches off towards Rheinfelden.
