Geographical Location

Schönengrund is a municipality in the former Hinterland District of the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden in Switzerland. In 1861, Schönengrund introduced compulsory practical instruction for girls, making it the first municipality in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden to do so.
