Bottenwil is located in the upper Uerke Valley in the canton of Aargau, belongs to the Zofingen district and borders the canton of Lucerne.

Bottenwil covers 510 hectares, of which 212 hectares are forest. The highest point is at 665 metres in Buechwald, while the lowest is at 470 metres on the Uerke.

Until it closed in spring 2001, Bottenwil's village dairy produced two loaves of Emmental cheese every day.

South of the village stand the ruins of Bottenstein Castle on a hill above the village; the ruins and their surroundings now belong to the municipality of Zofingen. The castle was built in the 13th century, and only its foundation walls remain.

Bottenwil was founded no later than the 8th century as a hamlet by an Alemannic man named Boto.

Getting There

Bottenwil has a motorway connection near Holziken and is served by a PostBus line connecting Zofingen with Schöftland and the municipalities in between.
