Geographical Location

Muhen is a municipality in Switzerland, in the canton of Aargau, in the district of Aarau, on the eastern edge of the lower Suhre Valley.

Nature

Muhen lies on the northwestern slope of a ridge between the valleys of the Suhre and the Wynen. Its three former parts of the municipality are located on alluvial fans at the mouths of deeply incised valleys. The Suhre flows through the village, while the surrounding plain is flat.

History

The medieval political history of Muhen is connected with the Counts of Lenzburg and Kyburg, the later Habsburg rule, and the creation of the Muhenamt judicial district around 1350.

After the conquest of Aargau by the Swiss Confederates in 1415, Muhen became part of the Bernese Aargau. Since the foundation of the Helvetic Republic in 1798, Muhen has belonged to the canton of Aargau.
