Where the Ätran and Assman rivers meet in Örsås, river landscapes, moorland and traces of ancient culture come together. The confluence is locally known as “åmotet”. The small Örsåssjön lake is also within the village, providing a second connection to the water. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Örsås, you can plan your trip around the village’s different attractions: nature, local history or time by the water.

Rivers, moorland and woodland

Agriculture shapes the river valleys across the wider Örsås parish; beyond them, the landscape is rich in moorland and dominated by forest. The Bjällermossen Nature Reserve, southeast of the church village of Örsås, offers a close-up look at this variety of nature. It is part of the Hästömossen moor complex and encompasses a mosaic of moors, swamp forests and mixed forests rich in conifers. Notable natural features include cloudberry blossoms, black grouse and old, slow-growing pines.

Bjällermossen is currently not signposted. Check the latest access conditions before visiting. Nature can also be experienced in a different way at nearby Holmaberg: hyperite rock differs from the surrounding gneiss, and the vegetation is considerably more species-rich than in the surrounding landscape. Linden, oak and hazel grow on the western slope. Visitors are welcome at Holmaberg Nature Reserve.

The church and traces of local history

Örsås has had a church since the 15th century. Its altarpiece depicts the Sermon on the Mount, flanked by two painted church windows featuring biblical figures. The church’s long history is thus reflected in specific artistic motifs. Another way to discover the area’s past is the Örsås Kulturstig/Röstorpsleden cultural trail. It is two kilometres long and passes through the central part of a 150-hectare prehistoric field-clearing area in Röstorp. The area is considered one of Sweden’s largest and best-preserved ancient agricultural landscapes. The two measurements refer to different things: two kilometres is the trail’s length, while 150 hectares is the area’s size.

Stommen also preserves buildings of cultural and historical interest, including a low dwelling house from the early 18th century. Örsås Hembygdsgård is located between the church and Örsåssjön, making it a distinctive landmark in the village. Its coffee Sundays are an annual tradition in July. The Midsummer celebration in Örsås has been held since 1956, with games, singing and music. If you would like to include these traditions in your trip, check the specific dates in advance.

Water and different travel interests

Örsås bathing area has a bathing jetty, a toilet and basic changing rooms. The waters around Örsås are home to trout as well as common fish species. The Västgötaleden cycling route offers another way to explore the area. Together with the cultural trail, historic buildings and nature reserves, it provides several themes to shape your travel plans around, without limiting Örsås to just one kind of outing.

When choosing a holiday apartment, it may therefore be helpful to first decide what you would most like to focus on: exploring moorland and woodland, discovering local history or spending time by the water. Örsås offers specific places to connect with these interests—from the confluence of the Ätran and Assman rivers to the prehistoric area in Röstorp and the traditions around the Hembygdsgård.
