Holiday apartment in Partille: Nature trails and cultural landscape

Partille can be discovered through specific places: through forests with old trees, along marked hiking trails, beside waterways and right in the middle of an industrial cultural landscape of national importance. Nature and history are particularly closely intertwined around Jonsered.

Nature

The Bokedalen nature reserve comprises beech and oak forests, older natural forests dominated by pine, arable land, grazed pastures, avenues and park areas with old broad-crowned deciduous trees. The area covers approximately 275 hectares, is part of the Natura 2000 network and is managed by the municipality of Partille. It borders directly on Jonsered, where the commuter train stops.

Salmon, white-throated dippers, kingfishers and grey wagtails occur in the Jonsered rapids. The Björnareåsen nature reserve showcases a different form of landscape: there, greenstone, old pine forest, ravines, rocky escarpments and plenty of deadwood combine with a species-rich flora. The abundance of plants includes the largest population of liverwort in the municipality.

Hiking

Bokedalens naturstig is a 4-kilometre-long, moderately difficult hiking trail. It leads along forest paths and boardwalks through varied forests with cultural attractions. The Knipeflågsbergen nature reserve also has an approximately 3-kilometre circular route to the plateau, the 5-kilometre Ugglemossen runt loop and the 3.5-kilometre Sörlyckan–Bertilssons stuga trail.

Several long-distance hiking trails also pass through the surrounding area. Stage 4 of the Bohusleden, which is 8 kilometres long, runs from Kåsjön to Jonsered, mainly along forest paths. A longer and fairly steep section with stairs brings the hike downhill to Jonsered. The section of stage 5 of the Bohusleden in Partille runs from Jonsered towards Angereds kyrka. It is approximately 7.5 kilometres long, moderately difficult and challenging in places, and runs mainly along forest paths.

Prästtjärn runt is a marked, 3-kilometre circular route with a shelter and an informal bathing spot from the rocky shore. On the Gotaleden, stage 4 from Jonsered to Lerum is 10 kilometres long, rated red in terms of difficulty and estimated to take 2 to 3 hours. It climbs towards Goråsbergen, with views of Lake Aspen.

Hittaut in Partille is a free activity in which you search for various checkpoints in urban areas, parks, residential areas and forests with the help of a paper map or an app. You can take part alone or together with others, on foot, running, by bicycle or in other ways.

Water

Kåsjöbadet is served by bus routes 512 and 516 from the centre of Partille. Both routes stop at the Kåsjön stop directly by the beach. At Lake Aspen, Humlebadet has a small sandy beach, a bathing jetty and a floating diving platform. It can be reached by commuter train to Jonsered and then via a scenic footpath of just under one kilometre.

Culture and history

Jonsered is an industrial cultural landscape of national importance, with architecture influenced by the Anglo-Saxon tradition and the distinctive character of a workers’ and factory community. The Jonsered factory complex includes, among other things, “Nybygget”, Sweden’s first terraced houses, and a technologically pioneering granite power station building inaugurated in 1901.

Jonsereds Trädgårdar is open to everyone, and admission is always free. The grounds include classical garden areas, exhibition gardens and a biodiversity trail. The gardens are a free interpretation of the former manor garden next to Jonsereds herrgård. The manor house acquired its present appearance in 1868 and was the home of factory founder William Gibson and his family for almost 100 years.

Every summer, Jonsereds herrgårdsscen presents a programme of various cultural events. It is organised by Föreningen Jonsereds herrgårdsscen and Kulturella in cooperation with the municipality of Partille. Jonsereds kyrka is built of white-rendered brick in an English-inspired Gothic Revival style. The church was built from 1858 to 1860 and inaugurated in May 1860.

Partille Kulturum is the municipality’s cultural and educational centre. It offers a library, several concert stages, a café and an exhibition hall. Kulturum can be reached by bus or commuter train; the train journey from Gothenburg Central Station takes seven minutes, with alighting at Partille station.

Partille Händer organises craft-related activities for the public in the former industrial building Kniven next to Partille station. Kniven is a creative workshop and event venue in former industrial premises next to the Säveån river. It offers crafts, exhibitions and outdoor concerts.

Museums
