Between open agricultural land, lakes, old oaks and preserved industrial sites, the area around Lerum reveals many different facets. The Lerådalen nature reserve encompasses a large part of the Lerån valley in the open agricultural landscape between Lerum and Stenkullen. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle via the cycle path between Lerum and Gråbo. Marked trails, information boards and an information brochure complement the area.

Nature

Lake Mjörn covers a large area and features an archipelago landscape, shores and diverse fish and birdlife. Another distinctive landscape can be found in Nääs Ekhagar between Floda and Nääs. There are old oaks, open grazing land and deciduous forests. The fauna of the old, gnarled oaks is described as unique even by European standards. The section of the Gotaleden between Floda and Tollered also runs through Nääs Ekhagar. Walking trails, several bathing spots and Nääsbadet beach are also part of the area.

Rammdalen has a dramatic, wilderness-like landscape with a distinctive rift gorge, steep rock faces and Lake Rammsjön. Risvedenspåret is a trail through Rammdalen that begins in Sjövik and continues through the nature reserve towards Ljusevattnet and Klevsjö Loft. The Hulan nature reserve is home to a mature oak forest that was formerly used as a park and pastureland. The slopes from Hulan to Aspen have cultural-historical value and are representative of the summer-house landscape of the second half of the 19th century. Hulan is most easily reached from Aspen railway station or via the road along the shore between Lerum and Jonsered.

The Härskogen nature reserve lies by Lakes Stora Härsjön and Lilla Härsjön on the border between the municipalities of Lerum and Härryda. The three-kilometre, hilly Tre Knallar trail crosses the rises Kokullen, Meteberget and Höga kullen. Lilla Härsjörundan is nine kilometres long and runs along gravel paths or gravel roads. Stora Härsjörundan is 13.5 kilometres long and mostly follows roads and easily walkable paths; in some places there are roots and rocks.

A roughly five-kilometre hiking trail runs through the Säveån nature reserve and can be reached from both Floda railway station and Stenkullen railway station. The Säveån offers good opportunities for walks and sport fishing in Lerum Municipality. Vite mosse is located in Vättlefjäll and is an area of national conservation interest. There, you may observe or hear nightjars; the rare marsh gentian species, bell gentian, also grows there.

Culture

In Stenkullen is Hillefors grynkvarn, a water-powered oatmeal mill, a listed building and a museum of working and industrial history. Guided tours can be booked at the mill. The Kvarndagar mill days take place there annually in spring, and the Kulturarvsdagar heritage days in autumn.

Tollereds Öfvre Kraftstation is a preserved museum documenting the history of hydropower. It opens for booked groups and for the general public on special visiting days. With its industrial facilities dating from the 1830s onwards and its associated housing, Tollered is one of Sweden’s best-preserved early industrial environments.

The castle setting of Nääs and the Seminarieområde, together with the green cultural heritage, make up Västsverland’s largest listed heritage site. Nääs is one of Sweden’s largest listed heritage sites and has an adjoining nature reserve. At Nääs, guided tours, courses in crafts and related fields, and exhibitions are offered at the Centre for Building Conservation.

In the centre of Lerum, Växtrum comprises eleven free-to-visit mini-parks or meeting places that are open at all times. Near Skallsjö by, beside the prehistoric walking trail, lies the noteworthy medieval church ruin of Skallsjö.
