Nature

Istorp combines open landscapes, beautiful stone walls and forest. The Viskan River flows through the village. Every year, Istorp attracts birdwatchers and rare bird species. When choosing your accommodation, nature observation, bodies of water and the other local offerings can be weighed as separate priorities alongside one another.

The Viskan fishing area includes the Lillån as far as Fävren within Marks Municipality, as well as Lilla Eksjö and Gravsjö in Istorp. In addition to a farm in Istorp, there is a deep spot in the Lillån that is popular with sport anglers; efforts have been made to make it accessible. The Varbergs Water Ski Club is headquartered in Istorp on the Marks side of the lake; water-skiing competitions are held there regularly.

Culture and History

Istorp Church was built in the early medieval period; medieval walls form part of the present-day building. The medieval road between Skara and Varberg ran between Istorp Church and the vicarage.

Ekarebo Skvaltkvarn is a restored watermill in the forest on the Ekån River in Istorp. It was originally built in 1800 and moved downstream in 1841. Of the 19 mills that once operated in the area, it is the only one that remains.

Activities

Ridskolehästar offers private riding lessons on its horses in Istorp. For beginners, the provider teaches the basics of horse care, brushing, saddling and tacking up, and accompanies them on their first ride. Riders with their own horses can train there in dressage, groundwork and show jumping. Ridskolehästar also offers guided rides in the forest, which are suitable for beginners as well.

Fagerhults Häst in Istorp offers trail rides, riding lessons, weekend courses and opportunities to work with horses. The provider limits its horse experiences to one or two guests per appointment.

Farms and Local Offerings

Frugårdens Kött operates an organically certified farm with suckler cow husbandry and raises the calves until slaughter. Visitors can see the animals there and experience a working farm. The farm shop is currently open on Fridays and sells, among other things, beef and ground beef.

Strömmared Östergården is a carefully renovated 19th-century farm with tourist offerings. The farm has a newly established organic apple orchard and an on-site cider press.

Skogens Hus offers companies and groups experiences and events in the forests of Istorp. Skogens Hus also offers overnight stays in cabins located directly beside the forest.
