Discover Färgelanda: Nature, Culture and Trails

Färgelanda combines vast natural landscapes with historic trails, churches, farms and waterscapes. The Kroppefjäll nature area covers 23,000 hectares with forests and lakes, twelve nature reserves and more than 100 kilometres of hiking trails. A holiday apartment in Färgelanda can therefore be viewed in terms of different travel interests: nature, culture, activity and regional history come together in a diverse range of themes.

Nature and Trails

Kroppefjällsleden is a 54-kilometre hiking trail divided into two stages. Shorter and longer routes provide a clear basis for comparison when planning your day. The 15-kilometre historic hiking trail Karl XII:s väg crosses Kroppefjäll; the Karolinerstugan is located along it and is open to the public year-round. Färgelanda's official cycling information also features an extensive route: the Lelångenleden cycle trail is 180 kilometres long.

Between Färgelanda and Ödeborg, a footpath and cycle path runs alongside the Valboån and follows the former route of the Lelångebanan railway. Färgelanda also has cycle tours connected with historic sights such as graves and buildings. Different route lengths and the combination of landscape and history give you several ways to explore the region by theme.

Culture and History

Färgelanda Church was consecrated on 20 July 1873. Its old churchyard has medieval origins; a freestanding burial chapel for the Rydingswärd family has been preserved there. On the upper floor of Centrumshuset in Färgelanda, Färgelanda konsthall displays various types of art year-round and holds eight to ten exhibitions annually.

Nearby, Vinnsäter in Färgelanda Municipality is designated as a listed building. Also nearby is the well-preserved Dalslandsgården Vinnsäter farm complex from the mid-19th century, where summer events are regularly held. The well-preserved Blanketorpet farm complex includes a residential building dating from 1824; its garden is surrounded by a stone wall approximately 300 metres long.

Nearby is Ättehögskullen, a burial ground from the Early Iron Age. Ättehögskullen is signposted, clearly visible from Road 172 and equipped with free parking. Nearby, Högsäters Church was built in the Neo-Gothic style between 1900 and 1902. Ödeborgs fornsal is also nearby and preserves almost 6,000 Dalsland objects from the pre-industrial era. It is open only by prior arrangement.

Water and Orientation

Flottarleden can be paddled from Ellenösjön or Östersjön through Färgelanda towards Bohuslän and Kaserna. There are overnight sites and barbecue facilities along Flottarleden. Regional Impressions

Kulturrunda No. 2 is a visitor route that passes through Färgelanda and Bäckefors. Nearby, Ragnerud Kök uses locally produced ingredients from Dalsland and Western Sweden. Its dishes and drinks also include ingredients gathered in the surrounding forests. Events held in Färgelanda throughout the year include Harvens dag.
