Holiday apartment in Bollebygd: Culture, Hiking Trails and Nature

Bollebygd combines historical landmarks, marked trails and diverse nature in a compact area. In the oldest centre of the locality, the valleys meet; this is where the church and vicarage are located. At the same time, the landscapes range from deep forest to open countryside and include lakes, nature trails and canoe routes.

History and Culture

Tingshuset was built in the mid-17th century and served as a courthouse until the 20th century. Bollebygd Church has a well-preserved exterior typical of the simple Neoclassicism of the first half of the 19th century. Inside, it preserves a medieval baptismal font that probably dates from before the middle of the 13th century, as well as a triumphal cross from the 15th century. The figure of Jesus on this cross comes from the former medieval church.

Odinslund is a former doctor's villa from the mid-19th century. It was converted into a cultural centre and now houses the library. This library at Odens väg 16 also contains Galleri Odinslund, which is run by the Bollebygd cultural association. Bollebygd Hembygdsgård preserves buildings and objects from the history of the locality, including a barn, a sash saw, a smithy and a belfry. It also includes a bakery where bread is baked in a wood-fired oven according to old recipes.

The Cultural Trail in Bollebygd is a cultural route that connects exercise, history and sights in the main locality. On one shore in Bollebygd there was formerly a building that was used as a sawmill and as a mill for the farm's own needs.

Trails and Exercise

The Vägen till hälsa loop around Erikstorp in Bollebygd can be used for walking, cycling or running. There is an information board with a map at Gästgivartorget. Walkers can start or leave the loop at any point. In the vicinity of Bollebygd, Gesebol has seven clearly marked hiking trails ranging from 1.9 to 11.2 kilometres in length. They lead through forests and farmland and past small forest lakes.

In Töllsjö, three clearly marked hiking trails of varying lengths begin at the local Hembygdsgården. A section of the Sjuhäradsleden begins one kilometre north of Olsfors. There is parking and information at Omegastugan; the nearest bus stop is Olsfors, 1.5 kilometres away. The Sjuhäradsleden runs between Hindås and Mullsjö, is 14 Swedish miles long and is divided into stages. Parts of stages 1 and 3, as well as stage 2, run through Bollebygd Municipality.

BuaSkogen is located in Olsfors, an adventure and high-rope park in a nature-rich forest area. Downhill cycling is possible at Bollekollen. Nearby, Vedugnsbageriet Brobacken offers a farm shop, fika and baked goods from the wood-fired oven made with locally produced ingredients.

Nature and Water

Rävaberget is a natural area with woodland, rocky outcrops and clearly visible paths for recreation close to home. The area is used for walking, playing and exploring. In summer, grazing sheep help keep the landscape open and promote biodiversity.

Bäckravinen features a stream-shaped landscape with lush vegetation, open areas and elements of the cultural landscape. The ravine is used for walking dogs, exercise and nature experiences, and offers opportunities for birdwatching and experiencing the changing seasons.

At Hulta damm there are seats where visitors can enjoy fika beside the rapids. Bollebygd has several lakes with beautiful, child-friendly bathing areas. The Sjögared Caves, also known as the Töllsjö Caves, form one of the longest cave systems in western Sweden. Between large boulders there are child-friendly niches and passages several hundred metres long.

Getting Around

Bollebygd's municipal tourist information office is located in the reception of the town hall on the square in the centre of Bollebygd. Local orientation is made clear there, as well as in the trails and cultural offerings that lead through the main locality and its surroundings.
