Hallstaberget has around 60 kilometres of groomed ski trails. There are also cross-country ski trails, roller-ski tracks, mountain bike trails, a biathlon stadium, alpine runs and ski jumps. A downhill track and a skills area round out the facilities; the lift is open in summer.

History and Culture

Sollefteå Church has its origins in the 13th century. It is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and in connection with church services. For several centuries, Sollefteå was a central location as well as a market and transshipment point for goods transported along the river. From the 1870s onwards, the town developed with representative buildings, most of which were constructed in wooden architecture.

You can also encounter this history along Kulturstråket in the town centre, which combines history and art with a walk through an attractive park landscape. Tingshuset, designed by Folke Zetterwall, is characterised by the National Romantic style of the period around the turn of the previous century and displays distinct Norwegian and Scottish influences. Apotekshuset is an art gallery and cultural arena in the town of Sollefteå. Hullsta Gård has been a meeting place for culture there for more than 50 years and offers a wide and varied cultural programme.

The library in Sollefteå is a meeting place open to everyone, offering information services, Wi-Fi and book lending. This public venue complements the town’s cultural institutions and historic buildings.

Landscape and Nature

Sollefteå’s Nip landscape was formed by the repeated changes in course of the Ångermanälven and Faxälven rivers after the inland ice melted. This created steep sandy slopes and the plain between them. Hågestaön is a green area close to the town in Sollefteå.

In the surrounding area, Gideåbergsmyrarna is a botanically significant moorland and swamp-forest area with numerous orchid species, attributed to calcareous moraine soil. In the vicinity of Gideåbergsmyrarna, steps and paths lead to Rävlarna, where there is an observation tower.

In Sollefteå Municipality, beginners and experienced anglers alike can fish in lakes and running waters. A digital navigation chart with downloadable GPS files for GPS devices or mobile phones is available for travelling along the Ångermanälven.

Active Pursuits

The Nipleden hiking trail begins at Sollefteå Camping on Risön in the centre of Sollefteå. It follows the Ångermanälven upstream to Edsbron and, after crossing the river, returns downstream to the starting point. The route thus connects the starting point by the river, the section to Edsbron and the return along the Ångermanälven in one continuous trail.

Nämforsen in Näsåker is also part of the area’s history. Nämforsen preserves at least 2,595 rock carvings, the oldest of which are believed to be around 6,000 years old. The Nämforsen rock-carving site is open to visitors year-round; the carvings are only not visible when covered by snow. In summer, the rock-carving museum offers guided tours with free admission.

Swimming and Leisure

Risöbadet is a heated swimming facility in the middle of Sollefteå, next to Sollefteå Camping. It has three pools: a 50 × 21 metre pool with a depth of 1.2 to 1.9 metres and eight lanes, a 16 × 8 metre pool with a depth of 0.6 to 0.9 metres, and a paddling pool with a depth of 0.15 to 0.35 metres. Risöbadet also has a water slide, a playground, a beach volleyball court, a kiosk, food and drink facilities, as well as changing rooms with showers.

Sollefteå Aquarena is a swimming facility in the centre of Sollefteå and also has a well-equipped gym. Sollefteå’s minigolf course is located directly next to Sollefteå Camping and Risöbadet. There is a parkour park in Västraskogen in Sollefteå.

In the surrounding area, Junsele Djurpark offers a family experience with around 20 different animal species, including white tigers, lemurs, lynxes and meerkats. Nearby, Kvarnå Trädgård combines a visitor garden with regional produce, a farm shop and a café.
