A walk along the Husån brings the river landscape into view; the water-powered saw and steam-powered sawmill point to Husum’s industrial history. There is also a medieval church nearby and cultural activities in the area. Husum offers a range of ways to shape a stay that brings together activity, history and local life.

On foot along the Husån

The 2.9-kilometre circular walk is classified as easy. It follows the Husån, crosses a bridge and returns along the opposite bank. Along the way, there are views across the river. The route consists of level footpaths and short gravel sections, so the surfaces change as you go. There is a disc golf course in the southern part.

On the opposite side of the waterway from the route, there are a playground and an outdoor fitness area. Check what facilities are currently available when making specific plans. Parking for the circular walk is available near the health centre beside the dam. If you would like to include exercise and other activities in your day, Husum’s indoor swimming pool also offers swimming, water play and swimming sports. Opening hours may change, so check the latest schedule before your visit.

Culture and activities in the area

Husumgården is next to the factory at the top of Blåsåsen. This lively, open and inclusive meeting place offers a wide range of social, cultural and non-profit activities. If you are coming for a specific activity, check in advance what is currently on offer.

Husum Library is located at Husumskolan and can also be used when staff are not present. Galleri Utås is open seasonally; check the current opening hours before visiting. Together, these places offer different insights into local life, from the library and gallery to social and cultural activities.

Church architecture and history

Grundsunda kyrka stands at the edge of the built-up area west of Husum, on a slope west of Prästsjön. The church is a medieval hall church; a porch was added in the 15th century. Its wooden bell tower, in the Bothnian style, was built in 1794. The different parts of the building and the periods in which they were built make the church a tangible point of interest for anyone who would like to explore older architecture as well as the river and local life.

Grundsunda Hembygdsgård, an open-air museum, is located by Prästsjön. In Husum itself, the water-powered saw was built in 1787 and grew into one of Sweden’s larger water-powered sawmills. A steam-powered sawmill was established in Husum in 1865; a pulp industry also developed there from the beginning of the 20th century. These dates span a long period and represent different chapters in industrial history, rather than just one historical moment.

What experiences would you like to shape your stay?

When choosing a holiday apartment in Husum, you can start by sorting your options according to the experiences you want your stay to include: the walking loop and indoor swimming pool, cultural activities in the area, or church architecture and industrial history. If you would also like to explore the surrounding area, Salusands havsbad is located by the E4. It is an additional point of reference when searching beyond Husum.
