Norsjö combines nature, rural cultural history and trails through landscapes shaped by the Ice Age. This is particularly evident at the Vajsjön nature reserve, the historic sites in the locality and several trails of very different lengths.

Nature

The Vajsjön nature reserve is located 1 km from the locality of Norsjö. The birdlife at Vajsjön is considered unique in inland Västerbotten. From 15 April to 15 August, visitors may not leave the marked trails at Vajsjön. The Norsjö bus station is located in the immediate vicinity of the Vajsjön nature reserve.

Svansele dammängar are highly valuable from both a biological and a cultural-historical perspective. Svansele dammängar are maintained through annual flooding and mowing in parts of the area.

Trails and landscape

The Romantiska stigen trail passes through cultural landscapes and over ridges of glacial erratics formed during the Ice Age. Another trail follows ridges shaped by the inland ice that once covered large parts of Sweden. A trail marked with red ribbons leads approximately 700 m towards the lake; the rock is about 10 m high.

For the longer routes, the range extends from a hike totalling 60 km, which can begin in Bastuträsk, Norsjö or Åmliden, to a hiking trail 11 km long that was restored a few years ago. A short hiking trail to Kortudden is approximately 1.5 km long.

At a rest area, you can make a fire and grill Bastuträskkorv.

Culture and history

The Hembygdsområdet in Norsjö includes buildings from the mid-19th century. These include a smithy, a barn, a bakery, a forest cabin and a tar kiln. The Hembygdsområdet also has a café that sells pastries, drinks and ice cream.

The Jaktmuseum presents the wildlife of the surrounding area and the historical importance of hunting to the region. On display are historic hunting weapons, traps and snares, as well as animals from the region, including bears, wolves, wolverines, beavers and various birds.

The Church Trail was used by the first inhabitants of Norsjö for church duties and burials. The Church Trail can be cycled.
