Holiday apartment in Långserud: Nature, Pilgrim Paths and Culture

Långserud combines a church situated by the water with historic sites, signposted pilgrim paths and diverse natural landscapes. Långserud Church is picturesquely situated on the southern shore of Lake Aspen. Its inventory includes, as its oldest item, a soapstone baptismal font believed to have originated in Norway and dating from the early 13th century. Culture and History

Wiksfors Bruk is a historic industrial site where, since the 17th century, a mill, sawmill, tannery and joinery workshop, among other facilities, were operated. The site includes the sculpture park at Wiksfors Bruk, which is open around the clock and free to access. All sculptures in the sculpture park at Wiksfors Bruk are equipped with QR codes that can be used to access videos about the works. Wiksfors Bruk is also a business hotel focusing on small-scale regional production, reuse and creative collaborations.

The Långserud local history museum also preserves items from everyday life in the area: it is furnished with furniture and objects from the municipality. In 1984, a school museum and an exhibition room were inaugurated in the attic. In Leken, well-preserved remains of houses, cellars and, among other things, a smithy have survived. In addition, there is a building from the late 18th century that was rebuilt in its original single-storey form.

Landscape and Bodies of Water

Gillertjärn Nature Reserve is known for its rich population of yew trees. The path to Gillertjärnet leads through a depression between rocky slopes to the pond in the small nature reserve. In Segoltorpshöjden Nature Reserve, the area includes a viewpoint at Björndolpan. Ulvfjället Nature Reserve has elevations between 190 and 307 metres above sea level; its slopes descend in all directions.

The Stenbyälven is one of Värmland’s most valuable waterways. Along the Stenbyälven Trail, there is a barbecue area, a wind shelter and a charcoal burner’s hut. At Mögsjön, there is a wind shelter for resting and spending the night. A child-friendly bathing area has a sandy beach and shallow water.

Hiking and Pilgrim Paths

The pilgrim path between Berga and Lönnskogs Kyrkplats runs between Berga and the church site of Lönnskog. The path is marked in purple, is 5 kilometres long and is of moderate difficulty. At the church site of Lönnskog, there is a bell tower and a pilgrim hostel for breaks and overnight stays. Thus, the route, marking, length, difficulty level and the facilities mentioned are clearly grouped together along this section.
