Holiday apartment in Grums – Water, nature and culture
Grums shows its special character where water, activity and local history come together. The Grums waterfront promenade runs from Grums idrottspark to the Trulsön bathing area. There you will find a sandy beach, rocks, a barbecue area, a jetty, an accessible ramp and a playground. There is also a changing room and another jetty for winter swimming.
Water and shoreline
Grums’s waterscape also includes Grums guest harbour. It is located inside the bridge at Slottsbrosundet and has a water depth of 2.5 to 3 metres. From there, the Trulsön bathing area can be reached on foot.
Activities and sport
Grums idrottspark includes an ice rink and an artificial-turf pitch; there are also illuminated exercise trails. A mountain-bike trail is located next to the idrottspark. The route is 2.5 kilometres long, hilly and covered with bark. Another sporting option is Grums swimming and sports centre, a family-friendly facility with swimming pools and a small troll pool for the youngest visitors.
Longer routes and many individual points also shape the municipality. Sverigeleden, Unionsleden and Vänerleden pass through Grums Municipality. In addition, 30 Hittaut checkpoints are distributed across various locations in the municipality. They can be reached on foot, by running or by bicycle. During the cold season, Grums skidklubb maintains three cross-country ski trails in the municipality, two of which are located at Grums idrottspark. These include a 2.5-kilometre illuminated trail and a 5-kilometre trail. Ålviksbacken has four downhill runs and offers views of Lake Vänern.
Nature
The Getgarsudde Nature Reserve contains extensive fields of scree and sequences of beach ridges. A marked hiking trail of approximately 2.5 kilometres also runs through the reserve. The landscape thus combines geological formations with a clearly designated trail within the same protected area.
Culture and history
Grums and its surrounding area preserve various traces of local and regional history. In 2017, a mural was created as part of Artscape Värmland on the apartment building at Åsgatan 25 in Grums. Sveaparken is one of the locations in a permanent series of memorial artworks for Sven-Erik Magnusson.
Grums Church has origins dating back to the 12th century. Two 12th-century baptismal fonts have been preserved inside. After a fire in 1927, the church was rebuilt on the old walls. Lavinias stuga stands at Grums hembygdsgård; it was built in 1906 as one of the first houses in what is now Grums tätort.
In Värmskog, L.M. Ericssons minnesgård Nordtomta presents an exhibition of telephones and other equipment from Ericsson’s early production. The Glasbruksmuseet in Liljedal is located on the site of a former glassworks. There is also a guest harbour and pitches for motorhomes. Borgviks museum presents the permanent exhibition “Järnets väg” as well as smaller temporary exhibitions. In Borgvik, Boa is both a museum and a village shop, offering local handicrafts and local products.
