Holiday apartment in Ingarö: Discover archipelago nature and culture

Ingarö combines protected archipelago landscapes with a cultural trail, historic sites and a wide range of activities. At the very end of Ingarö, in Värmdö Municipality, lies the Björnö Nature Reserve. There, open, agriculturally used areas in hollows meet forests and rocks – typical archipelago nature.

Nature and trails

Björnö includes Torpesand, where a sandy beach is combined with rocky bathing spots and views of Nämdöfjärden. Several marked hiking trails lead through the nature reserve to Småängsuddarna and to a lookout tower with far-reaching views across the archipelago. The 7.1-kilometre Björnöspåret runs in the southeast of Ingarö via smaller roads and forest paths through a nature reserve. Along the route there is a dry toilet, drinking water, a rest shelter and a campsite.

There is also an accessible snorkelling trail in the Björnö Nature Reserve at Torpesand. The underwater nature trail follows a route marked by buoys and is accompanied by information boards. Underwater, sandy bottoms alternate with aquatic plants, while rocky bottoms are covered with bladderwrack and blue mussels.

The Långviksträsk Nature Reserve on Ingarö is a largely untouched marshland and forest area around the small lake Långviksträsk. The forest there has been able to develop for more than 100 years without logging. The Långviksträsk marsh is included in Sweden’s national marsh protection plan and in the Natura 2000 network.

The Brunns Nature Reserve covers just under 85 hectares. It contains valuable, mostly untouched old pine forests and marshes. Marked trails and a lit fitness trail cross the area. Brunns can be reached by bus from Slussen or Gustavsberg: Get off in Brunn or at one of the first stops along Mörtviksvägen, then follow the lit path from the school. The lit Ingarö motionsspår fitness trail is 2.7 kilometres long and starts at Brunns skola.

Culture and history

The Ingarö Kulturstig cultural trail runs along the Kolström channel from Ingarö kyrka to Dyviken. Along the route are Sockencentrum, the bell tower, Pilhamn, Klockaregården, Kulturträdgården, Trollskogen and Varvsholmens gravfält. Kulturplats Pilhamn is one of the sites described on the information boards along the cultural trail.

The Ingarö Kulturstig cultural trail is approximately 4 kilometres long and passes through easy terrain. Three overview boards and seven individual boards provide information about the sites along the route. There is parking at the church, and there is also a bus stop at Ingarö kyrka.

Ingarö kyrka is protected under Chapter 4 of the Swedish Heritage Conservation Act. Construction began in 1790, and the church was inaugurated in 1792. Carl Cederström, Sweden’s first aviator, is buried in the cemetery of Ingarö kyrka.

Golf

Ingarö Golfklubb has two 18-hole courses with different characteristics. Ängsbanan lies in a valley with a pronounced archipelago character; small islands and ponds are integrated into the landscape. Skogsbanan runs through a hilly forest area with a pronounced archipelago character and a diverse bird population.
