Staffanstorp combines cultural history with wetlands, paths through the agricultural landscape and a range of activities. Uppåkra archaeological site reaches particularly far back in time: during the Iron Age, more than a thousand years ago, Uppåkra was a centre of power where politics, religion and trade came together. The site covers 40 hectares.
Culture
Gullåkra mosse also tells of a long past. In prehistoric times, the area was a sacred wetland and served as a sacrificial site in the region. A bronze lur found near Gullåkra mosse in the 1840s is considered one of the oldest metal instruments in the Nordic countries. The Önsvala burial ground was used for almost 500 years during the Iron Age. It mainly comprises graves from the 5th, 7th and 11th centuries and yielded extensive finds of ceramics and metal.
Several churches preserve further traces of history. Tottarps kyrka dates from the 12th century, as does the nave of Nevishögs kyrka. The church in Nevishög probably has Romanesque origins. Särslövs kyrka dates from the 13th century, while a 12th-century baptismal font is one of the attractions at Mölleberga kyrka. Tottarps kyrka is open in summer and in connection with activities at the church.
Staffanstorps konsthall is located in the central Medborgarhuset. It presents inspiring art and various events. The art gallery offers the public and schools guided tours of exhibitions, workshops and a creative studio. Nevishög is also home to Nevishögs smedja, a noteworthy, intact and fully functioning village smithy from the early 19th century. At an annual Smedjesdag held in autumn, it was put into operation once a year; the public was welcome to visit.
Nature
Vallby mosse is Staffanstorp Municipality’s first nature reserve. It formed in a former glacial kettle hole, which later became overgrown with peat and subsequently filled with water. Today, Vallby mosse is an important resting and breeding site for birds, including ducks. Most of the Beträdor are located between Tottarp and Djurslöv. The Beträdor offer the public a 13-kilometre walking route between the fields, providing a longer path through the landscape. Along the field margins of the Beträdor, visitors may also walk, jog or ride freely.
Activities
For water activities, Bråhögsbadet is located in the centre of Staffanstorp. It is the municipal bathing facility and has indoor pools in winter and an outdoor pool in summer. In addition, Bråhögsbadet offers a wide range of activity options for the whole family.
The surrounding area can also be explored by bicycle along a designated route. The Staffanstorp–Eslöv section of Cykelleden Skåne starts in Staffanstorp. It combines cycling through urban areas and agricultural landscapes with numerous castles and manor houses.
