Sjöbo combines short distances to nature and outdoor activities with culture, markets and regional excursion destinations. The Oran recreation area lies immediately east of the built-up area. It is one kilometre from the Sjöbo bus stop. There are 25 kilometres of marked mountain biking trails in total: one green, three blue and one red trail. This provides routes of varying levels of difficulty in the immediate vicinity of the town, while further landscape and cultural experiences complement the destination.

Nature

Several facilities also have their own distinctive character away from the mountain biking trails. In Möllers mosse, a 400-metre-long, illuminated running track has a surface made of rock flour. The X-rundan is 1,700 metres long; the entire route is illuminated and runs on asphalt. During the walk, the X-rundan also offers quiz questions. At Solvalla bygdegård, there is a 400-metre-long walking path accessible to all age groups, as well as to people with walking disabilities and those using walking aids.

Along the nature trail at Solvalla, signs provide information about various trees and shrubs. An additional information board describes the flowers and herbs visible throughout the year. In the regional surroundings of Sjöbo, the Snogeholm recreation area combines lakes, sandy heaths, open grazing land, wet alder marshes, open deciduous forest and dark spruce forest. There are ten marked hiking trails there, including a 1.5-kilometre-long, wheelchair-accessible lakeside promenade along Snogeholmssjön.

Water

Orebadet in the town of Sjöbo has a 50-metre-long outdoor pool. The facility also has a lift for people with disabilities serving the large swimming pool. Sjöbo swimming centre has a 25-metre pool as well as a relaxation area with a sauna and hot tub. In the regional surroundings of Sjöbo, the Övedskloster nature reserve additionally offers a bathing area and a barbecue area.

Culture

Exhibitions are held at Sjöbo Konsthall. Next to the art gallery, there is a creative space open to everyone. Sjöbo Konsthall is located in Kulturhuset at Gamla Torg 10, together with the library. This means that exhibitions, creative work and library use are all located in one shared cultural venue.

The Flora cinema and theatre has offered film screenings, theatre performances, concerts and lectures since 1939. Its facilities can also be used to show live or recorded opera, theatre and sporting events. Another historical feature is Elfstrands krukmakeri: the pottery workshop environment was the first in Skåne to be listed as a protected heritage site. As a working museum, Elfstrands krukmakeri preserves an authentic and well-maintained craft environment; the museum is open in summer.

History

The history of the town is also reflected in its markets. The Sjöbo market has existed since it was founded in 1864. The Sjöbo Summer Market takes place in the market square in the centre of Sjöbo. The Mikaeli Market maintains the tradition and remains a harvest market with food, handicrafts and handmade goods. A cultural walk in Sjöbo also includes a section with information about Gamla Torg and the Gästgiveriet.

In the Övedskloster nature reserve, an extensive network of paths in the regional surroundings of Sjöbo leads through old oak and beech forests with old, particularly thick trees. Together with the lakes, heaths, grazing land and forests of Snogeholm, this creates a regional juxtaposition of different landscapes, while Sjöbo itself offers an independent cultural setting with swimming facilities, exhibitions, markets and event venues.
