Holiday apartment in Kävlinge: Coast, Nature and History

Järavallen combines protected coastal nature with an unusually wide range of opportunities for active days. The area is both a nature reserve and one of the 19 recreational areas managed by Stiftelsen Skånska Landskap. Its facilities include an obstacle course as well as numerous paths and trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The flat coastal area along Lundåkrabukten is also an important resting place for many migratory birds, especially waders.

Nature and Coast

Several paths provide different ways to explore the landscape of Kävlinge Municipality. Skåneleden 5, Öresundsleden, runs through Järavallen and through the Barsebäck area within Kävlinge Municipality. Hälsans stig is signposted continuously in both directions with kilometre markers and direction signs; there are also connecting paths for shortcuts. Lödde ängar has a network of paths around the grazed coastal meadows. The landscape of the Lackalängaravinen is characterised mainly by grazed meadows, including dry, fresh and wet meadows.

The Stenbocks vallar nature area lies between Barsebäckshamn and Barsebäckstrand and offers views across the Öresund as well as a path for walks. At the same time, Stenbocks vallar preserves an 18th-century fortification and other remnants of the cultural landscape: these include earthworks with surrounding ditches, several Bronze Age burial mounds and a Stone Age settlement. Wegeängen is a recreational area close to residential areas, with mainly grazed coastal meadows sloping down towards the green, winding course of the Kävlingeån.

Salvikens strandängar also combines coastal nature with wildlife observation. The nature reserve has a sandy beach suitable for swimming, and a coastal path runs through its meadows. At the same time, Salvikens strandängar is an important resting and wintering site for many migratory birds. Dagstorps mosse provides a refuge for several rare and threatened plant species. In spring, orchids, bird’s-eye primroses and marsh marigolds bloom there. Allarps mosse, by contrast, is wet and has no facilities for outdoor recreation.

Activities by the Water and in the Great Outdoors

Barsebäckstrand has a 240-metre-long beach, a 70-metre-long jetty and gently sloping bathing waters. Public toilets are available, and a step-free ramp leads from the beach to the water. Saxån and Kävlingeån offer opportunities for recreation and fishing. A fishing licence is required for fishing in the rivers. At Lödde kar, around 30 metres are visible above the water’s surface.

Various facilities are available for other active experiences. TreeWalker has eight different courses, two practice courses and a zipline course with a total of 94 challenges. The Kävlinge Activity Park K.A.P. in Furulund combines a skatepark with bowl, flow and street areas, a boules court, a beach handball court, an obstacle course, balance lines and a disc golf course.

History and Culture

VikingaTider is a 25-hectare open-air archaeological museum on a cultural heritage site rich in wildlife and nature. It aims to recreate the Swedish landscape as it looked around 1,000 years ago. The museum offers bookable guided tours lasting 45 to 60 minutes in Swedish or English.

Older traces of the landscape are also present in several places. Gillhög is one of the best-preserved passage tombs in Skåne and contains a six-metre-long burial chamber. The Gamla kyrkan in Kävlinge was built in 1157. The chancel and nave contain medieval brick vaults as well as several medieval wall paintings, including a depiction of Saint Christopher.

The school museum in Löddeköpinge shows a school environment from the 1930s to the 1960s. Group tours can be booked there by arrangement. Kävlinge Municipality also has five tourist information offices with brochures and maps for the municipality and the surrounding area.
