Ödåkra: Wetland, Forest and History
Accommodation in Ödåkra
Explore Ödåkra through its restored wetland, forest paths and layered local history. Ödåkra sjö was restored as a wetland in 2019. If you want to combine nature with local history, you’ll find several distinct themes to consider when planning your trip.
Wetland and connected paths
The paths around Ödåkra sjö connect to routes in Duvestubbe Forest and to the underpass beneath the railway tracks at Bokgatan. The underpass was completed in spring 2023. This brings together paths by the wetland, forest trails and an under-railway connection as useful points of reference. When planning your day, you can decide whether to start with the wetland or the paths through the forest.
Duvestubbe and Björka fälad
The Duvestubbe nature reserve lies on the edge of Ödåkra. It has walking paths, wind shelters and two barbecue areas. The forest is home to beech trees about 120 years old and century-old oaks. You can follow the babbling Välabäcken stream through the forest. The old trees, stream and walking paths offer several tangible ways to enjoy time outdoors. If you’re looking for a holiday rental as a base for different interests during the day, you can take this natural setting into account when choosing one.
Björka fälad is located near Ödåkra and Väla centrum. A pond and a rest area with tables and benches define the site. This gives Björka fälad a different character from Duvestubbe: the focus here is on the pond and a break at the rest area, while Duvestubbe offers forest and walking paths. In November 2024, the municipal council decided to have Björka fälad established as Helsingborg’s 23rd nature reserve.
Farm history and local production
Just north of Duvestubbe Forest, in the Ödåkra area, is Starke Tufves stuga, a small museum commemorating the person who ran Duvestubbe farm in the 18th century. The connection to the farm gives the name a specific historical context.
Ödåkra’s industrial history is also tied to specific places and dates. Helsingborgs Spritförädlings AB was founded next to the railway in Ödåkra in 1898. Ödåkra Taffel Aquavit was made at the distillery in Ödåkra; production ended in 1977. At Spritan in Ödåkra, Ödåkra Brygghus brews IPA, lager, porter and folköl. The story therefore spans the farm history of the 18th century, the founding of the distillery and the end of aquavit production, through to the beers made by the brewery.
Rail connections and choosing your accommodation
Ödåkra has rail connections south towards Helsingborg and Malmö, and north towards Ängelholm. Check the current timetables for your travel dates, especially if you want to plan around train connections. These directions may be a factor when choosing a holiday rental, alongside your interest in forests, wetlands or local history.
When looking for a holiday rental in Ödåkra, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your stay: are walking paths and forests your priority, are you particularly interested in nature areas such as Björka fälad, or would you like to explore the area’s history? These preferences offer a practical starting point for choosing a location that suits your travel plans. If train journeys are part of your trip, also factor current connections into your plans.
