Kilsmo: Cycling routes, water and history
Accommodation in Kilsmo
Explore Kilsmo by cycling its routes or taking the waterway to the Sotterns skärgård nature reserve. There is also a seasonal opportunity to experience nature in winter, as well as historical attractions in Brevens Bruk. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Kilsmo, you can start by considering whether cycling, the waterside landscape, or architectural and industrial history will be the main focus of your trip. The different options give you practical guidance without requiring you to choose every excursion according to the same criteria.
Cycling routes: distance, difficulty and route
At Solbergabadet, outside Kilsmo between Kilsmo and Brevens Bruk, there are three mountain bike trails ranging from 4 to 9 km in length. Signs along the trails show the distance and difficulty level of each marked route. These are two different criteria to consider when planning a ride: the distance in kilometres tells you how long the route is, while the difficulty level provides a separate point of comparison. The mountain bike trails in Kilsmo are developed and maintained by the volunteer association Kilsmo IK.
The Ringsbergsleden near Kilsmo has cycling routes of varying difficulty. The Brevensleden runs from Lännäs to Brevens Bruk, passing through Kilsmo. This gives you several different features to compare: specific route distances at Solbergabadet, varying difficulty levels on the Ringsbergsleden, and a route that passes through several places on the Brevensleden. If you are planning with a group, you can weigh these features separately instead of, for example, automatically assuming that a longer route is more difficult.
Getting active in nature can also be an option in winter: the Kilsmo elljusspår can be used when snow conditions are good. If you are planning a winter stay, the snow conditions are therefore an important requirement for this outdoor activity.
Take the waterway to the nature reserve
From the boat landing stages in Kilsmo, the easiest way to reach Sotterns skärgård is by water. Seasonal restrictions apply in parts of the nature reserve, so take these into account when planning a visit. The waterway is an important part of this excursion, while conditions within the reserve also need to be considered according to the area and time of year.
More than 100 bird species breed in Lake Sottern. The bedrock is exposed on many of the islands in the area, where pine is the most common tree species. The natural side of the excursion therefore includes both the lake’s birdlife and the islands’ geological and botanical features.
Brevens Bruk: buildings and group tours
Brevens Bruk is home to a manor house dating from 1698, a works church dating from 1842, and a blast furnace and a roasting furnace from the 19th century. For visitors who want to include architectural and industrial history as well as nature in their trip, this offers a distinct historical focus.
Guided tours are available for larger groups; group bookings are required. The tours share information and stories about, among other things, the roasting furnace, the blast furnace, the Bruksmuseum and Brevens Church. This brings several historical themes together in one group activity.
