Holiday rental in Lekeberg: Nature, hiking trails and history
Lekeberg combines protected natural areas, aquatic landscapes and historic sites into a varied backdrop for travel planning. Between hiking trails through forests and cultural landscapes, bathing lakes, old churches and traces of limestone quarrying, there are numerous diverse impressions to discover.
Nature and landscape
In the municipal Bergaskogen Nature Reserve near Fjugesta, there are several trails as well as good opportunities for picking berries and mushrooms. The area is intended to ensure access to natural areas close to residential areas while preserving and further developing biological diversity. The Gökhults groddammar Nature Reserve protects valuable habitats for frogs, toads and salamanders while also promoting recreation close to residential areas.
Limstensgruvorna combines species-rich old-growth forest with a nutrient-rich fen. Protected features also include spectacular mine adits and chambers that bear traces of historic small-scale limestone quarrying. There is a marked trail and a very basic rest area, but no car park. The area lies north of the village of Tryggeboda in Lekeberg Municipality and can be reached on foot via Stage 13 of the Bergslagsleden.
Garphyttan National Park preserves an older cultural landscape surrounded by coniferous and mixed forest. Hiking is possible through flowering areas, open meadows, and deciduous and coniferous forests. The great crested newt lives in some old river channels in the Lekeberga-Sälven Nature Reserve. The municipal Vretalundsskogen Nature Reserve consists mainly of deciduous forest with many broadleaf trees and hazel bushes.
Hiking and trails
The Bergslagsleden passes through Lekeberg Municipality in three stages. Its stages have rest areas with shelters, fire pits, firewood supplies and toilets. The Lekhyttan–Sixtorp section of the Bergslagsleden is a 20.0-kilometre red-rated hiking route through the hilly forest landscape of the Kilsbergen.
Shorter and more distinctive trails are also part of the region. The Lanna recreation area has a walking path around the limestone quarry; there is also a technical MTB trail there. Hälsans stig in Fjugesta opened in September 2014, is approximately 4 kilometres long and runs along an old railway embankment, through the centre and through scenic areas. Along the trail there are 12 activity signs with physical exercises for children and adults.
