Nature

Illharjen is a natural delta on the Emån and also an easily accessible walking area for wheelchair users and prams. An approximately 875-metre-long wheelchair-accessible path runs through the area. Facilities on site include parking spaces, bridges, information boards and an accessible toilet. Around 60 different bird species breed in Illharjen every year. The Illharjen runt is a hiking trail around the Illharjen nature reserve.

Another route is the approximately 27-kilometre-long Vetlandarundan, which leads around the main town of Vetlanda. The route passes through a landscape featuring Lake Grumlan, the Emån and the Vetlandabäcken. The Planetrundan is designed as a cycling and hiking trail: it leads from the Sun sculpture in the centre of Vetlanda to Neptune, installed in the Östanå recreation area. Signs at the individual planets each show the way to the next planet in the solar system.

Culture and history

Vetlanda Museum presents exhibitions with a children's trail and numerous activities. The collection includes Swedish contemporary art, archive material, photographs and cultural-historical objects related to Vetlanda. The Historical Walk leads from the medieval village to the modern commercial town and passes, among other things, the distinctive town hall on the town square. Structural elements from the 12th century have been preserved in the lower storeys of the tower of Vetlanda Church.

Sagabiografen in Vetlanda is a modern cinema with 159 seats and a wheelchair-accessible auditorium. Vetlanda School Museum displays objects, furniture and school materials from older schools in the area around Vetlanda. The museum also includes a teacher's residence and a large collection of school wall charts. Hantverksgården in Apoteksparken focuses on handicrafts, with exhibitions by local artisans. Items available there include sheepskins, handwoven rag rugs, woodwork, blacksmithing, ceramics and textiles.

Leisure

Vetlanda swimming centre has a 16-metre pool and a 9.5 × 4 metre rehabilitation pool. The latter has a height-adjustable floor and a constant water temperature of 34 degrees. Vetlanda Golfklubb has an 18-hole course in the Småland countryside by the Emån and Lake Grumlan. It also includes a 9-hole pay-and-play course, which is open even to players without a golf handicap.

Kleva Mine offers families, among other things, mine walks, treasure hunts, gold panning and climbing. At Guldvaskningen i Ädelfors, the ticket includes all equipment, boots and a lesson from a gold prospector. One section of the canoe route on the Emån runs through Vetlanda Municipality.

Kettilsås ski resort has three pistes and a fun park with a Big Jump. Equipment for alpine skiing and snowboarding can also be rented there. Jennys Islandshästar offers bookable one- to two-hour horseback rides through varied terrain.

Food and drink

Forngården Summer Café in the centre of Vetlanda serves waffles with jam and cream, pastries and ice cream. Judith Hantverksbageri & Spiseri bakes sourdough bread with long proving times; pastries, bread and lunch are also available there.

Getting there and the town centre

Vetlanda Travel Centre has a railway station, a bus stop, taxi services and a kiosk. The travel centre also has larger bicycle parking facilities and public bicycle pumps. Around 750 municipal parking spaces are available in the centre of Vetlanda; the municipal parking spaces are free of charge.
