Lofsdalen: Skiing, Mountain Trails and Old Stories
Accommodation in Lofsdalen
Lofsdalen offers a variety of ways to enjoy an active holiday: groomed downhill runs and cross-country ski trails, excursions across treeless mountain terrain and through forests, and traces of the area's history. This mix makes it easier to plan your stay around your own interests. When looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider which experiences you want to shape your days and what else you would like to include.
Winter Sports, Hiking and Cycling Routes
The Lofsdalen ski area has 25 groomed downhill runs; the selection may change. There are 122 kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails, where you can ski classic or skate style. The total trail distance may vary slightly as routes are adjusted. Downhill and cross-country skiing offer different ways to spend a winter's day.
There are several ways to enjoy cycling, too. At Lofsdalen Fjällpark MTB, mountain bike trails range from beginner to advanced; individual trails may change. You can reach the park by the Lången Express lift or via the car park at Hovärkens spårcentral. Lift access is seasonal. The Lofsdalen Bike Park is separate and has 16 kilometres of downhill trails; their configuration may also change.
Hiking routes in Lofsdalen pass through both treeless mountain terrain and forest, and cater to beginners as well as experienced mountain hikers. Several trails start at Hovärksparkeringen, which is located directly in the treeless mountain terrain. The Panoramaleden leads to Hjärtat, an A-frame wind shelter. This lets you choose between routes through different kinds of terrain and a trail with a specific named destination.
History with Distinctive Details
Rombovallen is home to an old burial site dating back to the 11th century. There was also a Själastuga, a place to stop and rest. The burial site and resting place are different historical points of interest in the area's history.
The Spruthuset was built by brothers Sven and Per Persa Bäckman in the early 1920s as a small fire station. It housed a simple fire pump, and for many years the building was Lofsdalen's only fire protection. The Spruthuset and fire pump have been preserved in their original condition. Lindblomsfjöse is the barn where gold prospector Erik O Lindblom grew up. Another aspect of the area's history is the Skvaltkvarnen: a simple, water-powered mill with a small paddle wheel that dipped into a body of water. Together, these examples tell stories of fire protection, a local biography and early milling technology.
Experiences at Lofssjön
The beach at Lofssjön is family-friendly and has swings and a slide for the youngest visitors; facilities may change. The M/S Lofsdalen operates on the lake as a sauna boat. The various packages include sauna sessions, food and drinks; availability depends on the provider. SUP boards, kayaks, canoes and motorboats can also be rented in Lofsdalen. This rental offer is seasonal and depends on the operator. If you are planning one of these activities, check availability with the provider.
When choosing your holiday rental, it helps to consider your travel dates alongside the kind of holiday you want: will your focus be on downhill or cross-country skiing, cycling routes, hiking or local history? At Lofssjön, the beach and sauna boat offer further options. If you would like to combine several activities, you can then weigh up which options matter for your travel dates.
