Holiday accommodation in Berg: Nature and culture at Hoverberget

Berg is home to protected nature, historic sites and trails with a range of different stops.

Nature

Hoverberget is protected both as a nature reserve and as a Natura 2000 site. On its western side lies Rämnan, a 500-metre-long gorge with rock walls up to 25 metres high. Near the cave, the western part of Hoverberget forms a species-rich south-facing area of vegetation.

Hoverbergsgrottan is a 170-metre-long rock fissure cave and is considered the largest of its kind in Scandinavia. The first half is accessible thanks to lighting and sturdy stairs. Hoverberget also has trails, viewpoints and parking areas, as well as a rest cabin and an information hut at the summit.

Bergs Hembygdsgård, also known as Bergheim, lies at the foot of Hoverberget and today comprises around 20 historic buildings. Bingstasmedjan at Bergs Hembygdsgård is a complete gun-making forge and is considered one of the farmstead’s outstanding attractions. In summer, Bergs Hembygdsgård is a meeting place for people who live in or visit Berg parish.

According to a local legend, the giant Hoverbergsgubben occupied Hoverbergsgrottan when Jämtland was to be Christianised.
