Holiday apartment in Sölvesborg: culture, nature and paths by the water

Sölvesborg combines preserved traces of the Middle Ages with natural areas, paths by the water and a wide range of activities. The medieval street network around Stortorget has been preserved. The town offers a varied mix of local history, birdwatching, art and exercise.

Culture and history

The centrepiece is St. Nicholas Church, Sölvesborg’s only surviving medieval building. To the north, traces of the Carmelite monastery, founded in 1486, can be seen. A later architectural highlight is Listers Härads Tingshus: Gunnar Asplund designed the building, which was constructed between 1917 and 1921. It is a listed building in the Nordic Classicism style. The Tingshus is open to visitors in summer; outside the summer season, guided tours can be booked.

Sölvesborg Castle Ruins also reach far back into history: their origins date to the 13th century. Sölvesborg Castle was the largest and most important medieval fortification in eastern Denmark. The Borre Museum offers another way to explore local history, with works by Bror “Borre” Carlström, a woodcarver, satirical artist and local character. Sölvesborg Museum is housed in a former grain and spirits warehouse from the first half of the 19th century and opened as a museum in 1982.

Killebom is Sölvesborg’s town festival and has been held since 1973. The festival offers free guided walks and tours about Sölvesborg’s town and culture; registration is not required.

Nature

The Sölvesborgsviken nature reserve can be reached via Sölvesborg Bridge and is important for outdoor recreation. The bay is also important for overwintering waterbirds and breeding wetland and reed birds. Here, protected natural areas meet the distinctive connection between the town and Listerlandet.

Paths and exercise

Sölvesborg Bridge is a 760-metre-long pedestrian and cycle bridge over Sölvesborgsviken. It creates a closer connection between Sölvesborg town centre and the Listerlandet peninsula. On the bridge, visitors can walk, cycle, watch birds and the landscape, fish and have coffee. For longer routes, the Cykelled Listerlandet cycle trail starts in the town of Sölvesborg and passes several recreation areas and nature reserves. It is approximately 45 kilometres long.

The Sölvesborg Trail is an approximately 8-kilometre-long hiking trail that passes several attractions. At the same time, it connects several nature reserves and recreation areas in the western part of Sölvesborg Municipality. In the centre, a tree walk uses a digital map to guide visitors to unusual trees. A digital art tour showcases public art and architecture in Sölvesborg.

Arriving by train takes you directly to the town centre via Sölvesborg railway station. Bus route 2 connects Sölvesborg railway station with Hörvik, Krokås, Nogersund and Hällevik.

Activities

The Sölvesborg Flowtrail is located on Ryssberget. It is a 1.3-kilometre-long mountain bike trail for children and adults, ranging from beginners to elite riders. The trail includes jumps and bends. The Sölvesborg Pumptrack can be used with mountain bikes, BMX bikes, balance bikes, scooters, inline skates and skateboards.

Rainbow trout can be fished in Grundsjön. Floating jetties are located around the lake, along with an accessible jetty with a surrounding railing. Golfers will find a nine-hole course in Sölvesborg that can be used as a pay-and-play course without requiring a golf handicap card; equipment and balls can be rented.

Elskåpskonst also offers Sölvesborg’s first walk-through street art exhibition.
