Birdwatching, water sports and historical sites offer different ways to approach planning a trip to Torhamn. Torhamns udde is an internationally renowned birdwatching site, Petersvik offers conditions for wind and water sports, and Hästhallen and the church put culture and history centre stage. When looking for a holiday rental, it helps to first consider whether nature, water or historical discoveries will be the focus of your stay.

Torhamns udde: Birdwatching and Hiking

Torhamns udde is an internationally renowned birdwatching site with numerous breeding and resting birds. An observation tower stands at the tip of the headland, with Torhamns Fågelstation (bird observatory) right beside it. The Torhamns udde hiking trail is 3.4 km long. If you want to include birdwatching and hiking in your holiday plans, you can make the trail a separate item on your itinerary. The birds provide the connection with nature, while the stated distance gives you a concrete point of reference for planning.

Water Sports, Beach and Routes

In Petersvik, open water and good wind conditions are ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing. There is also a sandy beach and a long bathing jetty. This lets you weigh up different activities on the water: wind and water sports on the one hand, swimming on the other. If you plan to use the bathing jetty, check the current conditions before your visit. Pettersvik is a family-friendly bathing beach about 50 metres from Torhamn guest harbour. The guest harbour has around 20 guest berths; check current availability when making specific plans.

The routes also offer different points of interest. The Torhamn–Kristianopel cycle route is 25.5 km long. The Torhamn loop runs mostly in sheltered waters. For the cycle route, the distance is the concrete point of reference; for the Torhamn loop, it is the character of the waters. In summer, the M/F Ungskär operates the Torhamn–Eastern Archipelago route; the seasonal timetable may change. There are also bus connections from Torhamn to Jämjö and Karlskrona. Check the timetables for both connections in line with your travel dates.

Rock Carvings and Church Art

Just outside Torhamn, in Möckleryd, is Hästhallen, the largest collection of rock carvings in Blekinge. It comprises more than 140 figures, mainly ships, people, animals and cup marks. The rock carvings date from the Bronze Age, approximately between 1700 and 500 BC. The motifs and the historical period offer two different ways to look at the site: what is depicted there and when the rock carvings were made.

Torhamn Church also brings together art and historical details. Its monumental mural by Gunnar Torhamn shows Jesus among the residents of Torhamn. The pulpit dates from the mid-1630s; the monogram of King Christian IV can be seen on its canopy. Together with Hästhallen, this creates a clear contrast in time between Bronze Age rock art and church art and furnishings from a much later period.

Choose a Holiday Rental to Suit Your Travel Plans

The kind of holiday you want is a good starting point when choosing a location for your holiday rental. Nature watching and hiking call for different priorities than the beach and water sports or exploring history. Consider which of these interests you want to prioritise, and include the places mentioned in your search. If you plan to use the ferry or bus, take the current connections for your travel dates into account.
