Culture and history

The Gallery of Naïve Artists Trebnje regularly organizes exhibitions, lectures, discussions and presentations. It also houses an extensive collection of self-taught art, featuring works by more than 320 artists from 50 countries.

Since 2000, Jurjeva domačija has been a cultural and ethnological monument of local significance and dates back to the mid-18th century. The complex includes a partly masonry and partly wooden residential building with a traditional black kitchen and well-preserved interior furnishings in the rooms. Jurjeva domačija is an open-air museum.

Baragova domačija comprises a building reminiscent in size and design of a small manor house and marks the birthplace of the missionary Friderik Irenej Baraga. On the upper floor of the preserved building, several rooms house a memorial exhibition about the life of the missionary Friderik Irenej Baraga.

The pilgrimage church of Matere božje na Zaplazu stands on the 544-metre-high Zaplaški hrib above Čatež, offering wide-ranging views from there.

The Trebnje Tourist Information Centre is located at Goliev trg 5, 8210 Trebnje.

Trails and landscape

The Baragova pohodna pot is an 18-kilometre circular hiking trail that runs mainly through forests and meadows. It starts and ends in Trebnje; along the way, it passes through Mala vas, Knežja vas, Dobrnič, Grmada and Vrhtrebnje.

The Zaplaške stezice offer a shorter 1-kilometre route and a longer 3-kilometre route.

Vineyards and vineyard cottages shape the gently hilly landscape along the Temenica and near the forests.

As part of the Trebnje Municipality Day, Baragov dan, an organized walk along the Baragova pohodna pot is scheduled for the end of June.

Cycling

The GONM automated bicycle rental system operates in Trebnje with four stations.

The Dolenjski brevet runs on paved roads through Trebnje and connects twelve municipalities in Dolenjska with the Municipality of Kostanjevica na Krki.

Cuisine and local offerings

Domačija Vesel offers an adventurous, interactive themed trail for closed groups, school groups, families and individuals. Domačija Vesel also offers experiences featuring local cuisine.

The Eko doživetje at Kmetija Rogelj is a seasonal activity that involves collecting fresh herbs with a basket.

Iz trebanjskega koša offers visitors local delicacies, creative activities and a varied programme for all generations.

Ekološka kmetija Kukenberger sells its produce in a farm shop.
