The Škofja Loka Museum is housed in Loka Castle in Škofja Loka and presents collections on archaeology, history, cultural history, art, ethnology, natural history and sports. Loka Castle was first mentioned in 1215.
Culture and History
The Loka Stage is a theatre with more than a century of tradition; several international and Slovenian dramas are associated with annual performances there. The DUO Arts and Crafts Centre offers organised demonstrations by craftspeople and workshops on craft skills.
Puštal Castle is privately owned; the castle courtyard cannot be visited. The Church of the Holy Cross in Puštal Castle is decorated with the fresco “Descent from the Cross”, attributed to Giulio Quaglio the Younger and dating from 1706. The Path to Puštal thematic trail tells stories about how the inhabitants of Puštal used to live and about Puštal’s connection with combs and frogs.
In the wider regional surroundings of Škofja Loka lies the Emona House Archaeological Park, a museum. Ljubljana Castle is a castle there, the Prešeren Monument is a monument, and Ajdovski Gradec is an ancient site.
