Sežana: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The international Vilenica Literature Award is presented annually in the Plesna dvorana of Vilenica Cave. Individual visits to Vilenica Cave are possible on Sundays and public holidays at 3:00 p.m. from 1 April to 31 October; organized groups can visit the cave year-round by prior arrangement. A guided tour of Vilenica Cave lasts approximately one hour and involves a total of 1,050 steps when ascending and descending. The Lokev–Vilenica–Sežana hiking route and a route to the Lipica border crossing into Italy, among others, pass by Vilenica Cave.

Those who want to combine caves, museums and trails in Sežana at their own pace may consider renting an apartment.

Culture

The Kosovel Homestead can be visited by individuals and organized groups by prior arrangement. The Lokev Military Museum is located in the Tabor defensive tower, which was built in 1487 and is designated as a cultural monument of national importance.

The Srečko Kosovel Memorial Room has been located since 1976 in Sežana's old school, at the poet's birthplace. Through stories, a film, exhibits and readings, it conveys the poet's life and literary work.

Nature

The Lipica Stud Farm dates back to 1580 and is home to more than 300 Lipizzaners across an area of more than 300 hectares. The protected area of the Lipica Stud Farm encompasses the cultivated Karst landscape, the Lipizzaner herd, as well as architectural and art-historical heritage. An admission ticket to the Lipica Riding School includes a 50-minute performance as well as a guided or self-guided tour of the stud farm.

The Karst Living Museum extends across Sežana, Lipica and the area of the former Slovenian-Italian border, presenting the natural and cultural heritage of the traditional Karst across more than 700 hectares. Since 2017, the Botanični vrt Sežana at Villa Mirasasso has featured a revitalized area in the modernist style.

Trails

The Pot Srečka Kosovela runs along the foot of Tabor Hill, through vineyards, pine groves and Karst communal land to Tomaj. The Teran Circular Trail begins in the town center at the square in front of Bunčetova Farmhouse and leads along easy forest and village paths through the Karst landscape with vineyards and typical architecture. It may include a visit to a winemaker and a tasting of Teran.

Geographical Setting

The Podbreška Sopada mountain is located in the immediate vicinity of the Municipality of Sežana. The Vedetta Alice viewpoint, the Museo Nazionale dell'Antartide museum, the Vedetta d'Italia viewpoint, the Kleine Berlin museum, the Centrale idrodinamica del Porto Vecchio di Trieste museum and the Vedetta di Moccò viewpoint are located in the vicinity of the Municipality of Sežana. The historical site of Dolina Dei Druidi is located in the wider regional area surrounding the Municipality of Sežana.
